Accessibility
Accessibility at The Lay Counselor Academy
We are working toward WCAG 2.2 AA conformance across this site. We want this material to be readable and usable by the broadest possible group of peer counselors, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, reduced motion, or alternative input devices.
What we have built in
- Plain-language copy throughout, written at a comfortable reading level.
- Comfortable body type size (a minimum of seventeen pixels) with generous line height.
- Alternative text on meaningful images.
- No information conveyed by color alone.
- Visible focus states on interactive elements, a skip-to-main-content link, and reduced-motion handling for people who prefer it.
Standards we are working toward
This site is being built to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, including contrast, keyboard operability, structured headings, programmatic labels, and predictable focus order. We have not yet completed a full audit with assistive technologies. A formal review using screen readers and keyboard-only navigation is planned, and we will update this statement once it is done.
Known limitations
Some third-party content embedded on this site (notably the YouTube video and the course platform at TeachFloor) is outside our direct control. We have chosen embeds and partners that publish their own accessibility commitments, but issues there should be reported to them as well as to us. If you need a written transcript of any page on this site, ask and we will send one.
Reporting a barrier
If something on this site is hard to use, please tell us. Email [email protected] and we will respond within five business days, including a description of how we plan to address the issue.
Alternative ways to engage with the program
If a barrier on this site prevents you from enrolling, learning about the program, or getting in touch, write to us or call Elizabeth Morrison Consulting at (209) 769-3923. We will arrange an alternative path, including a real conversation with a human, so you can access the program in a way that works for you.
